The 411 phone service is dying off. Soon, you won’t be able to dial up those three numbers to get information because, well, internet. People with AT&T land lines are losing the service. They won’t be able to dial zero to get an operator anymore either. Some other services still offer it, but you have to pay a fee.
Speaking of, what does a land line even cost these days? I wonder if I could call 411 and get an answer. We had an internet/ land line 15 years ago. I can’t remember the company’s name. It was only $15 a month. But again, it wasn’t a traditional land line. I don’t think we’ve had one of those in nearly 18 years. Actually, doing a quick search on the internet, it looks like land lines start in the $25 dollar a month range. When I was in college, long distance calls could run hundreds of dollars a month. That was when hundreds was a lot. By the way, only about 28% of homes in the U.S. still have land lines.
