Company wants to fill sky with particles to block the sun.

The company Make Sunsets thinks we should be fighting global warming by putting a bunch of particles in the atmosphere that would reflect some of the sunlight back into space. Oh yeah, they say they’ve already started doing it. They went out to Baja, California last year and released a bunch of giant balloons filled with sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.

Obviously, scientists and weather experts are a bit ticked off that the company is jumping ahead like this. There haven’t been any studies to show what it would do. And here’s another issue. Sulfur dioxide usually comes back to Earth mixed with precipitation as sulfuric acid.  It’s pretty much the strongest normal acid. It would not be kind to cars, roofs, pets, humans, or almost everything else. There’s a good chance it’d eat through your umbrella.

Not to mention that this has a whole James Bond villain vibe to it. “Ve’re just trying to protect zee planet, yes. Zis is not a master plan to destroy everyone’s clothzing in the rain leaving the entire vorld naked and helpless. No, You haz un silly imagination Mr. Bond.”
