You might want to think twice before hitting the local fishing hole and eating what you caught. The EPA just published a study of fresh water fish. They found that eating a single serving of something you caught in fresh water could have a much contamination from forever chemicals as drinking heavily polluted water for a month.
Forever chemicals are the ones that are used in things like packing foam and household cleaning products. They like to stay in your body for a long time. They’ve been linked to cancer, immune problems, reproductive issues, and more.
The good news is that you don’t have to give up fish. They found that commercially raised fish have significantly lower levels of the chemicals.
I love fish. I used to eat it all the time, but not much anymore and not because of this. I simply can’t afford fish anymore. I used to cook up salmon every weekend. Now it’s got to be for something special like a 50th anniversary.
