Progress continues to be made on construction of the first residence hall ever to be built on the Southeast Community College campus in Lincoln. Campus Director Bev Cummins tells KLIN News the three story building will have room for nearly 250 students.

“There is a small workout space in there, it’s got a lot of study spaces and a communal kitchen.”   Students will also have access to a game room and convenience store.

Cummins says the building’s location on the east side takes advantage of the current tree line and provides large expansive views into the natural habitat on campus.  “We’ve got some study spaces that kind of jut out into the trees.  We kind of call them the tree house study rooms,” Cummins says.  “To  give those students an amazing space to live while they are going to school.”

She says the new dorm building will eliminate many challenges students faced before, like living off campus, paying rent and finding roommates.  “This we can do for them.  Now they have an opportunity to not worry about those things,” Cummins says.  “Meal plans are planned out for them and now they can have access to friends, support services and they’ve got residence hall managers there to help them make that transition from high school to adulthood and going out into the workforce.”

Cummins says the residence hall will be ready for students in January 2024.
