We have a police scanner in the news room here. Every now and then we hear a report that makes you turn your head and giggle. Tuesday morning, dispatch was asking an officer to check out a situation where a lone man in dark pants and a grey top was heading down 27th and Dudley…….. with a raccoon on a leash. He was walking a raccoon….. on a leash. As unusual as that is, why would someone call it in? Is having a raccoon as a pet illegal? Even if it is, it sounds like he’s treating the animal pretty well and they’re getting along.
Anyway, after dispatch told the officer that, he replied, “Which one am I checking on?” That made everybody laugh. I want to find out who the officer is and give him a prize. Then I want to ask him how it turned out, what was happening with a man taking his raccoon out for a morning walk.
