A tornado made its way through Montebello, California on Wednesday. While it passed by a school, a teacher there opened a door and got sucked out. To be fair, they aren’t used to tornados in Cali. And luckily, this thing was what they call a “weak” tornado. It was still strong enough to tear roofs off buildings and to suck a teacher out of a building. It only tossed her around a few feet, but I bet it was super scary.
She and the school kids were huddled in the building, but someone told her one of the kids had run out the door. So, she went to save him. She grabs the door handle and then the second she cracks the door open, the wind catches it and her and pulls her out onto a sidewalk. Another teacher was there who ran out to help her get back in. Someone caught it on their phone video. But it happens so quick, you have to slow it down to get the full effect.
I’m wondering why they weren’t in a basement. Do schools in California not have basements? When I was a kid, we had a tornado drill every spring where we practiced lining up in the main lobby and then going to the basement in an orderly fashion.
I couldn’t find a copy of the video to embed here, but if you CLICK THIS LINK, it will take you to the original article that has the video of the teacher getting sucked out the door.
