Potatoes USA is taking advantage of the soaring egg prices by hyping their potatoes as a replacement.
You’re probably thinking, what paint does one even use? The Internet suggests traditional paint instead of dyes, or edible paint and water-based food coloring so the potatoes can be dyed and eaten.
Now, this is more of a stunt for Potatoes USA than an actual hack. A dozen potatoes might not be cheaper than a carton of eggs. That said, coloring potatoes does make for more of a different experience especially if you use the smooth gold potatoes (best for color and designs). Your biggest challenge may be the execution of coloring the potatoes.
Here’s a hack that may be better than potatoes, rocks. If you’re really looking to save money, consider having your kids hunt for good rocks to paint. That even has the added “fun” of hunting for the rocks you want to use. Plus, they won’t break . . . smell . . . and could be easier to paint.
