In a suburb of Philadelphia, if you are a parent who turns into one of those jerks at your kid’s baseball games where you argue with the umpire, you’ll be ejected AND before you can come back, you have to officiate three other games.
I love this idea sooooo much. I was a softball umpire for a little while I was a teen. My father is in the Nebraska Softball Hall of Fame as an umpire. We can tell you allllll about mouthy people at games…. Calling you names, yelling at you, and sometimes even threatening to get you after the game. In this suburb of Philly, it was so bad that many of the officials quit and walked away.
The CEO of that little league says he loves the idea too. So, now let’s see you YOU like it Mr. and Mrs. irate parents. The league will provide a certified umpire to watch and make right calls when a parent messes up.
I do feel bad for the kids who are probably already embarrassed by their parent’s behavior to begin with. Then they probably catch a lot of flack from their friends when their parent’s take the punishment. Although, it is a good lesson about consequences.
