A commercial space station that people can buy a seat on is coming sooner than you think. Space X is saying that they’ll be launching one in 2025. And that’s just the beginning. The plan is to connect that station to a bigger station and create modules for a project they’re calling VAST. It’ll eventually be 3 football fields long and spinning to create artificial gravity. It’ll look like a giant set of Tinker Toys floating around above us.
Can regular people catch a flight up there and hang out? Sort of. You don’t have to be a NASA astronaut, but you have to be someone working on a scientific or philanthropic project. Will it be comfortable? Compared to every other capsule we shot into space, yes. They say it’ll have an area with a large dome window so you can take pictures and hang out. There will also always be Wi-Fi. You know, so you can post the ultimate selfie on social media.
