The Lincoln City Council voted on Monday on the transfer of city property to the Malone Community Center for just $1, clearing the way for its $20 million expansion project.
The center near 21st and U received a $1.5 million grant with plans to demolish its current 1,400 square-foot building. It will be replaced with a new 5,200 square-foot facility.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2025. The new building will include office space, classrooms, a computer lab, conference rooms, a gymnasium and a kitchen. There will also be additional parking.
Demolition is expected to begin next spring and the goal is have the project completed by the end of 2025. The Clyde Malone Community Center provides a variety of unique programs and services that help create unity and prosperity throughout Lincoln.
