Doctors saved a man’s hand……….. by sewing it into his abdomen. I’ve seen the picture. It’s a bit freaky.
Anthony is the guy’s name. He was cleaning a machine at a textiles factory in the UK. Something went wrong and it crushed his hand. They had to amputate a couple of fingers, but were able to save the rest by sewing into his belly to help it heal. If you didn’t know any better, you’d look and think, “That looks a lot like Al Bundy sitting on the couch with his hand resting in the top of his waist band. The procedure is called a pedicled abdominal flap. It’s done to help cover hand wounds where fingers are harmed. I don’t know the specifics, but I did about 10 minutes research and found a lot of pictures where thumbs were amputated and sewn into a tummy but fingers were on the outside moving around. That’s when I called it quits.
By the way, they also use the groin for these procedures.
