Netflix is going to be raising prices again……… thanks to the actors strike. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Netflix plans on the change within a few months after the strike ends. They didn’t specifically say it’s because of the actors, but it’s pretty obvious. One of the big issues is streaming payments, same as the writers. I’m sure Netflix looked at the deal made with the writers and then made a pretty good guess on what deal will be made with actors and how much that’s going to raise their costs.
They haven’t said how big of a hike it’ll be. I can tell you that the writers new contract gives them a minimum of 18% compensation on high budget films and a 26% increase in residuals. I can’t imagine what the actors are going to add to those numbers. I severely doubt that Netflix will be the only streamer who decides to up the prices.
