One person was sent to the hospital after a house exploded near 53rd and Gladstone around 12:45 Tuesday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman tells KLIN News crews arrived and found flames and debris scattered around the area.
“In the debris there was a ruptured gas line that they let vent until they got all of the other fires put out.” Back Hills Energy came to the scene to shut the gas line off. The house was valued at about $150,000 and is a total loss. There is no word on the condition of the person injured or the extent of damage to neighboring homes.
Lierman says crews had to deal with below zero temperatures while battling the fire. “There was a lot of ice in the area. When we have to keep our lines running for that long the ice gets pretty bad,” Lierman says. “We also rotated our crews to keep everybody warm.”
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the explosion.
