A couple weeks ago, a guy and his son in Texas found a bottle with a message in it on the beach off Padre Island. Inside were two sheets of paper. One was a mysterious letter written in Spanish. The other appeared to be a map. Thy called in a couple of experts and discovered that it was a map of seas currents. Also, the letter was addressed to the writer’s daughter saying how much the writer loves her and to never forget it. On the front was a phone number.
I got to this part of the story and my imagination took off. I pictured a Spanish fisherman on a sinking boat……. Out in the middle of the ocean knowing that he may never be found………. Composing a final letter to his daughter that he raised on his own. Then tossing the bottle into the sea just before the tip of the bow slips under the waves and he grabs hold of a loose plank to float on.
That’s not even close to what happened.
They called the number and left a message. Then they got a call back from a woman in Colorado Springs. Her parents had been on a cruise in the Caribbean last year. People on the cruise were given message in a bottle kits. It was a tourist gimmick. IN fact, the woman in Colorado said they could keep the map and letter.
