Wednesday night…… what a ride, right? Like many, we lost power at home. It came back around 10. That lasted for 3 whole minutes. Jenny and I were in the bedroom, resetting clocks and making sure phone chargers were plugged in, when all of a sudden there was a big flash and a boom from outside. A transformer blew up about a block away. Instantly, a huge swath of our neighborhood was pitch black again.
This is how dumb I am. Earlier, Jenny had set three candles on the dining table for me to light. Then she went outside to help the neighbors clear debris from people’s lawns. Two candles lit easily. The other seemed to have too much wax on the wick and wouldn’t stay lit. I gave up. I told her about it later. She pulled out the candle and asked, “This one?” That was the one. It’s also a fake, LED, candle. I tried to light a fake candle.
Speaking of helping the neighbors, rewind a couple of hours to when we got home and saw a tree draped over our immediate neighbor’s garage. It was touching the ground on the front, busted a hole in the front it’s roof and dented the peak of the roof. At that point, the wood broke and covered the entire back end of her garage roof. While we were helping chainsaw pieces off and clean, a guy in a pickup stopped and told us he couldn’t get to his house because both ends of the street were blocked by fallen trees.
One good thing came out of it all. We used the no electricity thing as an excuse to go out for sushi.
