Fish Drug Addicts

By Austin Michael Jul 8, 2021 | 8:12 PM

Probably the weirdest news headline today is “Fish Can Get Addicted to Meth”.

Apparently fish can get “hooked” without a fishing line. Rim shot!

Seriously though, a study found that drugs seep into waterways and the fish, in this case trout, ended up exhibiting the signs of meth addiction. Scientists took fish that had been exposed to drug laced water and gave them a choice of living in clean or tainted water. The fish chose the tainted water.

Needless to say, this can mess up their behavior and eventually their mating, living habits, and the ecosystem.

I love fish, but now I’m kind of wary. Remember the big deal about eating fish that were tainted with mercury? How long does meth stay in their systems? This will give a whole new meaning to my Baked Cod recipes.
