No. 2 Huskers sweep Iowa for 24th straight win

No. 2 Nebraska volleyball thrashed Iowa 25-9, 25-16, 25-17, Wednesday night in Coralville, Iowa. The win was the Huskers’ (27-1, 17-0 B1G) 24th straight and keeps Nebraska in first place in the Big Ten with three matches to go.

Harper Murray led a balanced Huskers attack with 11 kills and seven digs. Taylor Landfair, Merritt Beason and Andi Jackson all had seven kills while Rebekah Allick and Lindsay Krause both had six. Allick added five blocks while Landfair, Beason and Bergen Reilly all had three. Reilly added a pair of aces and 41 set assists.

Nebraska buried Iowa (10-19, 4-13 B1G) in set one, building a 16-7 lead. The Huskers cruised from there to victory, holding the Hawkeyes to .000 hitting while NU hit a blistering .630.

Iowa’s best stretch of sustained volleyball came early in set two. Behind some tough serving, the Hawkeyes built a 7-3 lead. The lead was 8-6 Iowa when a six-point run began for Nebraska, and the Huskers never trailed again in the second set. The third set was all Huskers, with NU building an 8-5 lead and never trailing as Nebraska cruised in to victory.

In all, the match took 78 minutes. Nebraska outhit Iowa, .472-.082, the best hitting percentage in a conference match for NU since 2017. The Huskers outblocked the Hawkeyes, 9-1 and outdug them 46-28.

Nebraska now gears up to face No. 6 Wisconsin Saturday night at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. It’s the final home match for a decorated senior class of Huskers. Pregame coverage starts at 6 p.m., first serve at 7 p.m. on B-107.3.
