Police are investigating the possibility of additional victims after a 52-year-old Florida man held a Lincoln woman captive while giving her a ride as a Lyft driver on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024.
On Christmas Eve, just before 11:30 p.m., a 52-year-old woman contacted police saying she had been held against her will by a Lyft driver and was not allowed to exit the vehicle.
She had requested the ride from the area of North 27th and “W” streets to the People City Mission. The driver, identified as Yoleisy Rondon of Florida, stopped prior to arriving at the Mission and requested the victim come to his residence.
The victim said she did not want to go, but Rondon took her to an apartment complex near 40th and Nebraska Parkway. She told him again she did not want to be there and he began driving again, refusing to let her out.
When they reached the area of North 24th and Superior streets, Rhondon reached back and grabbed the woman’s arm. That’s when she was able to exit the vehicle and call 911. During the investigation, LPD obtained rideshare and cell phone records that confirmed Rondon as the suspect and took him into custody.
On Tuesday, January 7, he was taken to the Lancaster County Jail for false imprisonment, first degree, and has since been released on bond.
Investigators believe there may be other victims. Individuals will information are asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
