Do egg charges include food with egg ingredients?

By Austin Michael Feb 25, 2025 | 7:35 PM

Denny’s has joined Waffle House in adding sur charges to meals that include eggs. When I heard this yesterday, I turned to Jenny and said, “Why are they even bothering telling us this? Why not just raise the price on the menu?”

Then Jenny asked me, “Do they charge extra for food that you have to use eggs to make?”

Good question. Do they use eggs to make waffles? We do. So I pulled up the Denny’s menu. And let me point out that I’m not picking on them, I just needed examples. Specialty Crepes, stood out right away. Crepes are literally eggs cooked and flattened to be like thin pancakes. The Smokehouse Melt sandwich had two fried eggs on it. I did notice an asterisk next to the word “eggs”. However, it was a notice of how the cooked it and if you wanted them less cooked, you have to order them that way. Nothing about an extra charge.

I’m honestly curious. If someone from Denny’s or Waffle House would like to clarify, I’d help me scratch this itch. Is there a sur charge on items that require eggs as ingredients or is it just when they’re prepared? Here’s my e-mail: Austin@b1073.com.
