Twenty years of Catholic baptisms have been ruled invalid on a technicality.
Reverend Andres Arango was saying, “We baptize you in the name of the father…….” Instead of “I baptize you in the name of the father….”. It’s a one word difference that the Vatican has ruled invalidates the baptisms. They’re taking a stance that it’s not the community that baptizes you, it’s Jesus. Andres had performed the ritual in Phoenix, San Diego, and all over Brazil. They have no idea how many there were or who everyone involved is.
How does a faithful Catholic fix this if they think Reverend Arango performed their baptism? They start by filling out a form. The diocese of Phoenix set up a web site to sign up for a new baptism done right. There’s also a section of frequently asked questions like “Do I need to go to confession for this” (They say no and then point out that getting baptized wipes all of your sins are forgiven and your soul is wiped clean) and “Do I have to use the same godparents” (Short answer is no. Though, Godparents have to be Catholic.) as well as “Does this affect my marriage” (their answer is “maybe”).
