The Price Is Right is hitting the road to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They plan on hitting 50 different spots starting at the west coast and ending up on the east. I’d really like to see it, but so far, the Press Release only lists some landmarks and major cities they’ll be at. I read the press release a couple of times. It just says “Fans can follow the tour’s journey across the country via Instagram @TheRealPriceIsRight to see where it is headed next!”
From what I can tell is that they’ll be giving away $50,000 at each stop which is a drop in the bucket to what The Price Is Right has handed out over the years. They’ve given away more than 300 hundred million in cash and prizes since 1972. The 50th anniversary is based on the revised version of the Price Is Right. It originally went on tv in 1956, hosted by Bill Cullen. That lasted until 1965. In it, contestants did a lot more bidding on things instead of playing games.
It’d be neat if they came to Lincoln and gave away prizes and did bids on local businesses. Something like, “How much is a double scoop of red velvet cake ice cream from Ivanna Cone” or “Higher or lower; $300 for duct cleaning from Bryant AC Heating and Electric?”
