Solar cells that work at night. You’re probably thinking how would that work. I thought maybe using light from the moon, but no. It’s more ingenious. Researchers at Stanford have created cells that soak up the heat the Earth gives off at night and turns it into energy. Bonus, they suck up sun rays during the day too. Because they’re always working, they don’t need batteries to store power. Science!!!
However, right now the amount of energy these produced in testing at night is pretty low. You might be able to charge a phone. But if you’re out in the middle of nowhere or in a 3rd world country that doesn’t have any energy to begin with, it’s way better than the nothing alternative. Put out 10 or 20 panels and all of a sudden there’s safety lighting. Plus, these things were just invented. They’ll get a lot better.
