To celebrate one of my best friend’s birthday (the big 4-0), myself and eight others traveled to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico! The trip, like most do, went too fast . . . and was nothing but gorgeous and fun.
Our villa was located near Zona Romántica. This part of Puerto Vallarta is filled with LGBTQ bars, restaurants, art galleries, boutique hotels, and more . . . located on cobblestone streets. It’s a trendy area with a beautiful landscape . . . trees and plants with vibrant colors . . . plus of course the beach (jungles, too).
I can’t speak for the rest of the city, but if you ever have the opportunity to leave the states, check out the Zona Romántica area in PV! Did I mention the weather was sunny and 85 with a light breeze?
Here are some highlights of my trip . . .
- Food and drinks . . . I mostly ate meals with shrimp (which were incredible). All of the salsas were fresh and the variety of tortilla chips and hot sauces were a dream. My favorite meal was the Shrimp Sizzling Fajitas (La Palapa Restaurant). My favorite drink came from Blondies Loft + Slushbar which features frozen cocktails and drinks made with fresh fruit, fresh squeezed juices, and top shelf spirits.
- Snacks . . . Mexican Doritos are so much better than American Doritos. Who knew? The cheese is cheesier, and low key spicy. Best Dorito experience of my life. LOL.
- Craziest moment . . . While enjoying drinks at Mr. Flamingo on our first night, someone recognized my voice. That’s right, my voice. As I was standing near the bar to order a drink, a stranger tapped on my shoulder and asked if I was Bic from the radio. Come to find out this stranger wasn’t a stranger but an acquaintance of mine from KEARNEY. What are the odds?! If you could have seen my reaction . . . crazy!
- Biggest surprise . . . Ross Matthews got married just yards away from us. The wedding took place next to where one of my friends live. I have an Indy friend who lives in Puerto Vallarta for a chunk of the year. It should be noted that DREW BARRYMORE was with Ross, too! Surprise!
- Special visitor . . . Two separate times at night we had a visiting lemur or monkey? I actually witnessed one of the moments. In one of the palm trees next to our villa, he or she made the climb up the palm tree. You could faintly see the local native from our pool. It was exciting, mysterious, and a little scary.
- What was I thinking . . . Believe it or not, not all tacos in Mexico are good. A couple of us experienced some less-than-desirable tacos . . . and for some unrealistic reason I thought all tacos made in Mexico were perfect (silly me).
So there you have it! I cannot wait to go back.
If there’s one thing I don’t miss about this trip . . . it’s TSA/Customs coming back into America.
