Stolen soda secrets lead to Chinese espionage conviction.

A Chinese woman has been convicted of espionage and stealing $120 million in secrets to give to the Chinese government. Was it plans for a secret sub? Perhaps nuclear codes? It was……….. how to coat soda cans so they don’t corrode as fast. She stole secrets from Coca-Cola.

She had been the the principal engineer for global research for the cola company. But she wanted to start her own company in China that would coat cans. She already had millions in funding from the Chinese government. The secrets she stole cost $120 million to develop.

She’s been convicted of conspiracy to commit trade secret theft, conspiracy to commit economic espionage, possession of stolen trade secrets, economic espionage and wire fraud. She’s going to jail for 12 years and has been ordered to pay a $200,000 fine. All that for some soda secrets.
