A car was recently auctioned off for $143 million. It’s a 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SLR, one of only two that exist. It set the world record for most expensive car. There seems to be a lot of “most expensive” world records being set lately. Like that painting of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol that went for $195 million a couple of weeks ago. Who has this kind of money? I don’t know. The car was one of them “invite only” auctions meaning you probably have to talk with a stuffy English accent or sound like a villain from a James Bond movie.
The most I’ve ever paid for a car is $15k. Before that was $7,000. The first car I ever bought was $1,500, a Buick Skylark. I bought two cars in the early 2000s for a thousand each. Only one of them was a clunker.
