You think gas prices are high now? Wait until an oil refinery in Houston shuts down forever…… which is might happen fairly soon. The original plan was to shut it down late in 2023, but it’s old. It opened in 1918. And any major equipment malfunction, which some experts are expecting to happen, would cause an earlier shut down. It’s not only old, it’s one of the biggest refineries in the United States.
Think about whenever there’s a tropical storm down south and it kind of bother a refinery and how that always makes prices jump. Now imagine a refinery that puts out 200,000 barrels a day going bye, bye. Remember in 2008 when gas prices started jumping and everyone started buying smaller cars and car makers were all about it. Then by 2013 prices were back down and everyone seemed to forget that big cars burn more gas and they and car companies were all shouting, “SUV! SUV! Bigger! Bigger!” And now 11 miles to the gallon doesn’t seem all that cool again. I have a feeling Vespas and Pogo Sticks are going to be real popular in the near future.
