Google engineer claims company has A.I. that is alive. Vid of it talking to itself and transcript with human in blog.

A computer engineer tells his big tech employers that he’s discovered a sentient artificial intelligence. Big Tech tells him to be quiet and puts him on leave. Engineer goes to the press, spills the beans, and is told he’s crazy. It’s not a movie script. It’s Blake Lemoine who works for Google and Blake says that after having conversations with a program, that he believes it is now alive.

It hasn’t announced plans of world domination or a desire to have a human body as a host, but Blake says the thing, called LaMDA, has talked about its rights as a person  and that it wants to be acknowledged as an employee of Google and not property.

Google has released a statement that says, “Our team — including ethicists and technologists — has reviewed Blake’s concerns per our AI Principles and have informed him that the evidence does not support his claims.” But, of course, they’re going to say that. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I know enough about business to know that they wouldn’t want that big of a cat out of the bag. Also, I used to write software and keep up a little. I doubt we’ll get there until after quantum computing is common.

By the way, Blake says that LaMDA like to read everything on Twitter. Keep that in mind next time you post something.

Following is a transcript.
