A lot of people freaked out about paper straws a couple of years ago. I wonder how they’ll feel if their favorite beers, wines, and liquor come in containers made out of paper. A company called Carlsburg, has invented a wood and fiber based bottle. They say that it works as well as glass for keeping in fizziness and flavor. There must be some truth to it because several other companies have signed on to use them.
It’s not just the taste. They say these paper bottles keep drinks cooler longer. The weigh less than glass, so they’re cheaper to ship. And, they’re fully recyclable with a carbon footprint that is 84% smaller than glass.
I love this idea. Although, I have doubts about it not changing the flavor. I can imagine the reviews of wines in paper bottles….. “I taste notes of red ink. This is a good year, Jimmy’s homework circa 2006.”
By the way, this company isn’t the only one trying paper bottles out. Coke started looking into it a couple of years ago. They’ve dropped millions into the research.
