This is what it’s like to be in a plane flying into a hurricane. Nick Underwood is one of those hurricane hunter guys that are in the special planes that literally fly into hurricanes to gather data. His crew went into Hurricane Ian yesterday. He caught a couple minutes of them inside the plane and posted it to Twitter. It’s not footage of the hurricane, just inside the plane, but it’s interesting to see what’s going on. Especially since you know how dangerous it is. It’s been viewed a couple million times already.
Those planes are built for heavy weather conditions, and I can’t think of any that have ever gone down. Knowing that, would you be willing to join them and fly into a hurricane? I used to be deathly afraid of flying. Abnormally scared. But Jenny got me on to more planes with her than I ever would have and now I have zero issues. In fact, being on one of these hurricane planes actually sounds like one of those once in a life time adventures that I think I’d find fun.
That said, one of the people on this plane was on the news last night and said that it was the worst turbulence he’d ever been in and the worst lightning. Yeah, they get struck by lightning a lot.
When I say this was the roughest flight of my career so far, I mean it. I have never seen the bunks come out like that. There was coffee everywhere. I have never felt such lateral motion.
Aboard Kermit (#NOAA42) this morning into Hurricane #Ian. Please stay safe out there. https://t.co/DQwqBwAE6v pic.twitter.com/gvV7WUJ6aS
