It’s happened on numerous occasions . . . you’re at work and your head starts noddin’ . . . and you ask yourself, “Why am I tired?!”
According to the National Sleep Foundation, the majority of Americans experience fatigue and feel sleepy at least three days per week. There are many factors that could be at fault for your drowsiness, but your DIET can play a big part.
Here are six foods to AVOID. Cutting back on these six may help boost your energy:
– Pop . . . Obviously it’s not food, but is sugary. Drinks loaded with sugar cause an instant rise and fall of blood sugar levels. That’s not good for your energy.
– Diet frozen entrees . . . Many of these have the calorie equivalent of a snack. Which isn’t enough fuel. Plus, they typically come with heavily processed starches and sugary/salty sauces. You’re better with frozen meals that contain between 350 and 600 calories and have whole-food ingredients like brown rice, black beans, and broccoli.
– White bread . . . You’re doomed. Doesn’t matter if it’s a bagel, pizza crust, hamburger bun, or sandwich bread. It’s best to go with the whole-grain versions like whole-wheat bread.
– Frozen yogurt . . . SO MUCH SUGAR. For women, your average scoop of fro-yo has 32 grams of added sugar which is more than the max amount recommended each day.
– Fast food burgers . . . The bun and condiments is loaded with salt, saturated fat, refined grains, and added sugars. It gets worse when you add an order of fries and a pop.
– Frosted cereal . . . Sugary cereals are the worst. For women, one leading brand has 12 grams of added sugar per ¾ cup. That’s three teaspoons or half the amount suggested each day.
